This is tax season; we are back again! We are delighted to announce that the Canadian NewaGuthi (CNG) is going to conduct a Free Tax Clinic at the following location in the GTA for eligible community members during this tax season. We are proud to let you know that this is the Eleventh year in a row we are organizing the free tax clinics in the GTA exclusively for our community members.

The Tax Clinic will be conducted under the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) of the Revenue Canada Agency (CRA).

In this program, CNG’s volunteers will prepare the year 2022 tax and benefit returns free of charge for eligible members of the Nepalese community. The volunteer team comprises of Canadian Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA’s) and other volunteers.

Please be informed that you are eligible to get the free service under this program only if you have a simple tax situation and meet the CRA’s criteria. For your information, most of the newcomers and those with moderate income level will qualify under this program.

CRA has set the following criteria for eligible individuals or families:

Income thresholds – Taxpayer’s Income should not exceed:

  • 1 person family $35,000
  • 2 persons family $45,000
  • 3 persons family $47,500
  • 4 persons family $50,000
  • Interest income $1,000

Other conditions – Volunteers do not prepare returns for individuals who have:

  • self-employment income
  • business or rental income and expenses
  • capital gains or losses
  • Foreign property (T1135)
  • employment expenses
  • filed for bankruptcy
  • deceased in the year
  • foreign property (T1135)
  • foreign income

Alternative service to those who are not eligible for free service under CVITP

The CNG has also made an arrangement to provide service for a reasonable fee to those community members who do not qualify for the free service under CVITP. For your information, the service with fee will be provided outside the CVITP program and all fees collected will go to the CNG’s fund as donations.

Please come at the tax clinic with all the required documents listed below as may apply to you:

  • Names and SIN of spouse and dependents (all participating adult members of the family need to be present at the tax clinic in person)
  • A copy of 2021 return, including spouse’s return (not applicable to newcomer)
  • 2021 Notice of Assessment (not applicable to newcomer)
  • T4 – Employment income
  • T4E – Income from employment insurance
  • T5007 – Workers compensation/social assistance payments
  • RRSP Contributions
  • Receipt of Medical, dental, prescription drugs etc.
  • Charitable donations
  • T2202A – Tuition fees/education amount
  • Receipt of property taxes or residential rent paid and name of payee
  • T2201 – Disability tax credit claim form completed by authorized health practitioner
